This piece has two inspirations - my childhood fascination with carnivorous plants and Little Shop of Horrors. The base is a polystyrene egg, heavily embellished with foam and a rather festive paint job in sap green and deep crimson. Rounding out the piece and countering the rather reptilian quality of the head, the leaves were obtained by giving some artificial flowers the Mommie Dearest treatment. The design incorporates elements of a Dilophosaurus (the frilled, spitting dinosaur from Jurassic Park), Venom (Spiderman), and, of course, Audrey II. The finishing touch is a miniature version of the monstrous flower as a corsage.
