Unsurprisingly, the primary inspirations for this piece were the dragons of Game of Thrones and Warcraft. The subject matter demanded a regal theme, one combining the imposing signifiers of monarchy with organic, reptilian forms. The arches reference hairstyles from the Elizabethan period, while the webbed wings suggest the silhouette of a crown or ruff. The scaled texture effect was created by individually adhering thousands of small beads to all areas of the dragon’s body and limbs in a process that took several days of focus and devoured countless tubes of UHU. I made a second, ghostly version of this piece for Anna Phylactic for Channel 4's Drag S.O.S.
